Day 25: Weliko Tarnowo

Today I started late, not because I wanted to, but because I was told the earliest time for breakfast was 9:00. But at that time everthing was still locked. So I started to pack my stuff first and waited for my omelette.

I only hit the road at 10:30 when it was already quite hot. But the good road conditions (as always in combination with a lot of cars) made up for the late start. I hadn't been sure if I would be able to cross the balkan moutain range today, but that worked out fine (apart from some cursing when going uphill).

After coming down from the mountains again I ended up in Weliko Tarnowo. This is the first real suprise find of this voyage. I did not expect anything, but this city is located beautfifully on three hills with a river running between. There are loads of restaurants and cafes. Also Tarnowo used to be the capital of Bulgaria and has some history. Since I arrived late I was only able to do a short walk, but quite enjoyed it.

What I didn't enjoy was that the hotel is also on one of the hills and only covers the 4th floor of the building. Getting up there was no fun after the tour. Also Wifi is broken, so again pictures are a day late.

I keep complaining about the heat. But in the next few days the temperatures are predicted to go even higher (up to 37° or even 39°). I don't think it is a good idea to cycle in these conditions. Had I known this before then I could have chosen a route to the sea. But now I cannot get there this fast. Tomorrow is the last day with somewhat reasonable temperatures,  so I should end up somewhere I can stay a few days. Up to now I haven't found a nice place.
