Day 58: Avignon and Camargue

This morning I started in the mountains.

40 km from Avignon they ended. And 20 km from Avignon you already would not guess that there are mountains anywhere near.

The whole day a strong wind was blowing. So strong it became hard to pour cereals into a cup. But on the other hand it blew me forward and made cycling easier. In the night though it was quite annoying while staying in my tent (in combination with a party going on), so I did not catch to much sleep :(

Most of the roads were quite ok, only when getting near Avignon I had to cycle on large roads with some deviations, when the road suddenly became a motor road. 3km this changed when a cycling path started on a smaller road leading straight into the center. This even gave priority to cyclists when lanes merged:

The historic center of Avignon is still completely surrounded by the old city walls and seems a lively city. Only ordering a crepe proved impossible. It was so packed I waited for 20 minutes without beeing able to place an order so I left again.

In the evening I ended up in the Camargue. Again a completely different (and flat) landscape.
