Day 18: Skipping Bukarest
I have decided to skip Bukarest and to got straight to Constanca. Big cities are no fun with a velomobile and if there is nothing I really want to see, I'd rather have some relaxed time at the sea side :)
Nothing was able to top yesterdays ride, but todays ride didn't even bother to try. At first there where still some nice views when coming out of the mountains, but then the terrain got pretty flat.
Instead the cycling part got better. In the morning I still noticed my tired legs a lot (and was very happy that I didn't have to do much pedalling, since I was going downhill almost all of the time).
In the afternoon my legs got better and I could average speeds >35km/h for some time. When I got tired I decided to look for an accomodation and found a private room 50km from my position. Which was a bit more than I really wanted to cycle, but ok.
I cycled along happily until suddenly the road became a gravel road. Then a single lane gravel path. And then it started to ascend into a forest. Cycling uphill on gravel in a velomobile does not work particulary well, since you loose grip on the rear tire. I had to get out and push. Not so happy anymore. And instantly hoards of mosquitoes attacked. I was tired and pushed as fast as I could, but not fast enough. When the path got flat again and cycled and got out again at the next uphill part.
Not being able to pause, constantly being attacked and always trying to go as fast as I could while worrying about damaging my bike on the uneven ground was no fun at all. After a seemingly endless time I got out of the forest. I will have to check my tires for damage and my BRouter settings to see if there is any way to prevent this from happening again. I'd rather cycle 20km extra.
