Day 2: Arendsee -> Lehnin
Today I cycled 145km from Arendsee to Lehnin. When planning the tour I hoped to do about 200km/day. After being able to cycle 110km to/from work I thought 200km when cycling the whole day should be possible.
Seems I was wrong. So why is this? I guess there are multiple issues:
* The luggage slows me down more than expected. Currently the bike gets lighter every day, since I packed to much food. So a part of this problem will disappear over time. Also I hope to get more fit (and perhaps also loose a bit of weight)
* Acceleration costs most of the energy when cycling a velomobile. When cycling to work I knew when and how much to brake before every corner. This is not the case for unknown roads. Also navigation requires stopping and reaccelaration.
* Water management. Today I had only 2.5l with me. Which I used all in the morning. Buying additional 1.5l was not enough. So I will need more than that on sunny days.
So there is some room for improvement, but getting to 200km/day will not be easy.
Still today was a nice day and going for a swim after cycling was really relaxing.
I will add some photos once I have proper network connectivity.
Niklaaaas, awesome that you made it eventually and started your trip!
ReplyDeleteEnjoy your trip rather than analyzing it only - keep in mind you are no longer working ;)
I am looking forward to reading more of your adventure!
Hey Sabrina, I am enjoying my trip :) But at the start of the tour I have still to find out, what distances I can cover to be able to plan ahead. All visas have dates. And arriving late might prevent me from crossing some borders. So some planning and analysis is required ;)
