Day 29: A hot day for a change
Today I cycled 56 km to Widin. In the morning the communication with the hotel staff was a bit confused. Yesterday I had understood that I could get some breakfast in the restaurant, but now the information was "no work". All further communication failed. So I had some of my own bread with jam for breakfast and got started.
At first on empty roads, but later more trucks were on their way. Sometimes it was frustrating to cycle a few meters from the Danube without being able to stop. The guard rail is preventing me from leaving the road and parking on the road seems to be not a good idea.
Arriving in Widin I have some time to kill and spend it in the park next to the Danube, having some coffee, ice cream...
... and later looking at the local castle.
Also the temperatures are a bit more moderate today. Only going up to 38°. But in the shadow of the trees without doing a lot this is kind of ok.
It seems that the temperatures will stay high for some more time. As I move west it should get better little by little (Belgrad is supposedly 3-4° cooler than Plewen). So I guess after a lay day tomorrow I will continue my slow advance to the West until I get some more pleasant weather and can continue cycling in a normal pace (hopefully this happens before I encounter any mountains ;)
My current plan is to stay south of Belgrad and then continue to Sarajewo and Mostar (two cities I only associate with the bosnian war from 25 years ago, so I guess it is good to get an updated view of the area) before hitting the adriatic coast in Croatia.
