Day 7: The day that went according to plan
Today I only wanted to cycle to Krakow and stay here for a day. And surprise: This plan worked out :) After this section I have now covered more than 1000km. Yay!

Temperatures today got up to above 30°. So I had a long break pause during the hottest hours of the day. Tomorrow temperatures will go up to 35°. I will be very happy not to cycle. Apart from the first day temperatures always exceeded 25°. Drinking more than 9 liters of liquids on a given day works, but requires lightly salted water to prevent mineral loss and regular drinking intervalls. Each small climb requires a drinking break afterwards. I will be happy when the temperatures drop hopefully the day after tomorrow.
Krakow has been the first big goal of this journey. I have always wanted to see it since working with Jakub (great guy who told me about his home town and also gave me a travel guide) in Swindon in 2007. It took me only 14 years to really get here.
After arriving I took some time to recover from the heat and rehydrate and then started exploring the city. It really meets all expectations. A large inner city with loads of beautiful old buildings and the royal castle (although this is largely a rebuild). Also the mood was quite nice. On my last tour I was quite annoyed in Dresden and Prague since they were so overcrowded by tourists and you couldn't get any feel of the city.
This was different today. There were people, but not too many. Perhaps this is an advantage of COVID19. Not sure what the city might be like at other times.
Since there was a korean place two streets from the hotel I decided to have korean soy chicken for dinner. Let's see if this tastes anything like the original ;)

Finally: Beard growth documentation as requested (for proper beards see background) |
Uuuuh you cut your hair :) let’s see how long this will get again via your trip… you look happy - I like the picture…
ReplyDeleteTake good care!
Thanks :) Btw: I really don't want to disappoint anyone, but why do you all assume I won't cut my hair or trim my beard at any point during the trip? Is this a rule that has to be followed?
DeleteNot at all! :) cut your hair, trim your beard, do whatever suits you! Traveling people most often do not care or they don’t want to waist time or money for a hair dresser. Compared to hiking people I think you have a great chance to pass by a hair dresser or to have a bathroom and mirror available ;)
