Day 32: Going Upstream

Today was supposed the hottest day of the current heat wave. So I was a bit nervous how the day was going to end up being like when I started cycling.

But since my beakfast had only consisted of a flapjack and a cup of tea (the accommodation did not offer any breakfast and I hadn't found the motivation to go shopping yesterday) the more important first stop was a supermarket to buy a second breakfast.

Already the morning it was very warm. Once I entered the "iron gate" and got into the area with higher mountains there was sometimes some shadow from the mountains on the street which cooled things down a bit. Still I was sweating a lot.

Most of the road was pretty flat, but the two climbs I had to do really hurt in the heat. The views were rewarding though.

I had expected a fast flowing river, but because of the dam at the end of the valley it was more like a lake without any current. Lovely, but not imposing.

After 120 km I ended up in Golubac. All in all the tour was quite nice given the circumstances. Tomorrow the highest temperature is supposed to be 31°. This is at least 8° less than today :)
