Today I started in Mostar and ended in Podgora in Croatia. What a difference. In Bosnia I was one of only a few western tourists. And now I'm in a mass tourism area, The beaches are packed and it is hard to find a place to sleep, The camp size I'm staying on costs more than most of my previous hotels. I just hope I'll find sites to sleep in the coming days.
But let's start at the beginning. I started on a large road in Mostar which got gradually smaller until I got onto the Ciro cycling trail from Mostar to Dubrovnik. This track follows an old railway line and is well paved. Also there are some nice places to rest:
For a while I had some pretty perfect cycling conditions.
At the border to Croatia every persons vaccination certificate was checked, so I had to wait some time until I could continue.
And a few kilometers before Ploce the nice cycling conditions ended and I had to continue on the bigger coastal road. This required some climbing in the hottest hours of the day.
Also I was stopped by police on that road again. This time they were not all that friendly and told me I could not drive there because it was to fast (60 km/h speed limit most of the time), they had not seen me and this is dangerous (how did they stop me, if they did not see me!?) and my velomobile was to large for a bike (so what?). The road is actually part of the official EuroVelo 8 track some of the time. So how can it not be legal to cycle there? When they noticed they had only bullshit arguments and none of it made sense one of them said "I don't know what to say" and they drove of.
Some time later I arrived at the camp site and after setting up my tent jumped into the mediterranian sea for the first time to relax and cool down.
After two cooler days today was hot again. And it will stay hot for some time. But at least I have escaped the 40° forecast for tuesday in Mostar and temperatures will stay in the mid-thirties.
