Day 40: Going sailing
This morning I started with a swim in the sea and a nice breakfast. If you get up early you can have most places for yourself - even when staying on the largest camp site I have ever been on.
Having finished I started cycling north again. From one of the hills I could see Primosten:
... and three little yellow sails. So I decided to check if there was a sailing school that had perhaps also boats for rent. And there was :)I rented a Hobie Pacific (not one of the fastest catamarans, but very well tempered) for 2 hours. The first tack required three tries (which was also the maximum since I was running out of water to sail on), but then I understood the boat a bit better and sailed along the town with a few nice views. There is a video of this, but currently I have neither Wifi nor can I edit the video. Perhaps I will post it later.
When I finished my sight-seeing the wind got a bit stronger and I also had some fun sailing.
Until one side of the forstay broke. There was a loud "klonk" and then a gentle "splash" as the mounting sunk into the sea. Ups. Fortunately it was on the side that had less load and I could continue sailing downwind back to the harbour trying to minimize the rigg load. The only problem was a gybe I had to perform before landing. But that went ok, too. Even if the mast was not quite upright on this side it still did not come down. I'm really good at breaking all kinds of vehicles it seems :(
I then continued on my way somewhat tired, so I ended todays section after 80 km. Still the part after Primosten was one of the best parts in Croatia with many small islands and towns.
Tomorrow I will first cycle to Biograd and probably take the ferry to the Pasman island from there.
