Day 53: It's raining (for an hour)
This morning I woke up and everything was still dry. No rain. No thunderstorms.
When I cycled through Cremona there were a few drops but no serious rain. I wasn't completely unhappy with that part, since I was able to look at the cathedral and other buildings without getting wet.
Only after cycling for about an hour the rain seriously started. For a moment I thought there was an enormous thunder before realizing I had parked underneath a railway bridge and the thunder was only a train. The rain lasted for about an hour and later the sun was back.
Today the landscape gradually changed. Almost the whole way since crossing the italien border the only ascents where bridges and dikes. Bow for the first time there were some hills again. Nothing serious, but you can notice the change. The Po river now also has some current. Previously you couldn't really see any movement in the water at all.
The next city I stopped in was Pavia which has a well-known bridge accross the Po:
I wanted to rest a bit longer, but a little boy kept talking to me in italian and wouldn't understand that I had no idea, what he was talking about and kept repeating it (this happens not only with children. Often if I tell italians I don't understand them, they just keep talking). Over time he became a bit annoyed since I still did not understand. Finally I moved on.
A problem I have had for the last few days is reflections on the hull of my velomobile in the evening. Going west at that time of the day is not a good idea. Until now I haven't found a good way to deal with this. Driving slowly and waiting for a change in direction seems to be the only way.
